Favorite music of 2014

2014 is almost done, and it has been an amazing year for music! I know folks like to do their favorite ‘top 10 lists’ for music, but I figure I can add my own two cents in. I love music, and 2014 has been the best year for finding new music in a very long time. Here are some of my favorites:

Morning Phase by Beck

I couldn’t believe how amazing this album was! It is very slow, but beautiful and deep. This is my favorite Beck album, by far.

Royal Blood by Royal Blood

They basically kick a lot of ass. I love this band and I cannot wait to see them live.

St. Vincent by St. Vincent

A really good and creative album, from beginning to end.

Present Tense by Wild Beasts

I loved this album, though I would actually recommend their previous album ‘Smoother’ before listening to this album if you have never heard a Wild Beasts album.

Run the Jewels 2 by Run the Jewels

I didn’t get the hype of this album at first, but it’s some really good angry hip-hop.

Mandatory Fun by Weird Al

I love satire and found myself listening to Weird Al’s album a lot. This is one of his better works.

Intersteller: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack by Hans Zimmer

If you love movie scores, you cannot miss this one. Hans Zimmer knocks it out of the park, yet again.

Endless River by Pink Floyd

It’s Division Bell style Pink Floyd without the bad lyrics. I loved every moment of this album. Makes me sad that this could be their last one, but this album fits right on to their other amazing classics.

Field Notes: BlogHer PRO 2014

Great post on Blogher!

The WordPress.com Blog

Automatticians, the people who build WordPress.com, participate in events and projects around the world every day. Periodically, they report back on the exciting things they do when not in front of a computer — from talking about making great products to using design to tackle social challenges.

Recently, Story Wrangler Cheri Lucas Rowlands and Happiness Engineers Carolyn Sonnek, Deborah Beckett, and Jen Hooks attended the third annual BlogHer PRO ’14 conference, an event for professionally minded bloggers looking to take their blogs, brands, and businesses to the next level.

A conference is a great way to dive deeper into your passion of blogging. You invest in specific skills you want to hone and get inspired by big ideas, and also take a break from that glowing screen. It’s fun to immerse yourself in an inspiring setting where avatars become faces and Twitter handles become real people.
